ABOUT KAREN FONG DONOGHUE

I am passionate about helping students find the best colleges based on their personal preferences, abilities, and potential. I know how overwhelming the college process can be, and I am here to help you ease your anxiety throughout the admissions process. My approach is comprehensive and structured but always energetic, positive, and full of encouragement.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of California, Davis, and received my master’s degree in counseling with a credential in high school counseling from Chapman University. My experience includes time as a high school guidance counselor and over 14 years as an independent college counselor.  My extensive training in college guidance started with the opportunity to be trained by the guru of college counseling, Don Dunbar of Dunbar Educational Consultants, followed by continued professional development regularly. I stay current on college admission trends by reading professional publications daily and attending annual conferences and college fairs. I am an active member of educational consulting associations (National Association for College Admission Counseling and Colorado College Consultants). I am quite literally “in love” with the college planning process! I visit many colleges each year and am eager to share my insights and observations with my families.

In 2014, my husband and I moved to the beautiful mountain foothills west of Denver, where I continue helping families. Outside of work, I enjoy horseback riding, caring for our animals at our little family farm, and spending time with my husband, Troy, our 9-year-old daughter, Liberty, and our four-legged sons, Duke and Maple.

In addition to guiding families through College by Karen, I also have a thriving athletic advisory company focused on rugby players. If you are interested, you can check out www.RuggersEdge.com.
